In Epistle to the Galatians, chapters 3 and 4, Paul reveals one of the most beautiful truths of the Gospel: through faith in Jesus Christ, we become children of God.
Human effort, religious performance, and the Law could never make us God’s family. The Law acted like a guardian, pointing us toward Christ. But when Jesus came “in the fullness of time,” He redeemed us from slavery so that we might receive adoption as sons and daughters.
This changes everything.
Believers are no longer slaves living in fear, guilt, or striving. Through the Holy Spirit, God places His own presence within us, teaching our hearts to cry, “Abba, Father.” Christianity is therefore not merely a religion; it is a living relationship with God as our loving Father.
Paul also contrasts Hagar and Sarah to show two ways of living: slavery through human effort, or freedom through God’s promise. Like Isaac, believers are “children of promise,” born through God’s grace and power, not through human striving.
Because we belong to Christ:
- We are accepted,
- We are heirs of God’s promises,
- And we are called to live in freedom through the Spirit.
The Gospel invites us to stop striving for acceptance and start living from the security of being God’s beloved children.
