In Galatians 3, Paul the Apostle presents a powerful truth: God’s promises are received through faith, not by works of the Law. The key verse declares, “What was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe” (Galatians 3:22).
Paul begins with Abraham, who was counted righteous because he believed God, not because he kept the Law. This shows that faith was always God’s way of bringing people into a covenant relationship. The Law, given later through Moses, was never meant to save. Instead, it revealed sin, exposed human weakness, and showed our need for grace.
Scripture says everything was “locked up under sin” so that no one could rely on self-righteousness. The Law acts like a mirror; it reveals the problem but cannot heal it. Only Christ can.
Jesus took the curse of the Law upon Himself on the cross so that we could receive the blessing promised to Abraham. Through faith in Christ, believers are justified, adopted into God’s family, and made heirs of the promise.
Paul concludes with this assurance: “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29).
Faith does not create the promise: it gives us access to it because Christ Himself is the fulfillment of that promise.
The message is simple: promises are not earned by performance; they are received by belonging. Faith unlocks promise because Christ is the Promise.
